What Is PRP?
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is an organic substance that
has long been advocated for its ability to facilitate tissue regeneration and wound healing. The substance exists in every person®s blood, which makes it safe and convenient.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Why Is PRP Important?
Doctors have known for years that healing depends on platelets. These very tiny blood components are rich in growth factors and help form a blood clot during injury. When you injure an area like a ligament or a muscle, they seep into the wound during the bleeding that normally occurs. They then set up a blood clot to stop the bleeding and start to release growth factors to the area to coordinate a repair response. Over the first week or so, they act as a time release “pill” that secretes various growth factors as various times. These time release growth factors do things like bring in stem cells and bring in new blood vessels to ensure that the body can get more blood to the area. To use a gardening metaphor, if you have a plant that is injured and not doing well, placing some more water and fertilizer in the ground may help your plant recover. Platelets are like fertilizer, their growth factors help to kick-start the local repair response.
How Is PRP Created?
PRP is created when the provider takes blood from a vein and places it in a special centrifuge to concentrate platelets (usually 3-5 times their normal concentration).
Uses For PRP
In the field of cosmetic medicine, PRP can be used as a topical to expedite healing after fractional laser or microneedling techniques, or may be injected along the cheekbones and laugh lines to lift or plump the area and improve the quality of the overlying skin. PRP has also been shown to help with hair restoration when it is injected in the scalp with or without microneedling for hair restoration.
Benefits Of PRP
Some benefits of PRP therapy with or without resurfacing may include:
- More even skin tone and texture (see before and after example of microneedling with PRP below)
- Reduction of age spots, blemishes and rosacea
- Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
- Smoother, firmer skin
- Reduction of scars
- Reduction of saggy skin under the eyes, neck, and jowl area
- Rejuvenating skin damaged by vascular lesions and other skin disorders
- Treatment of thinning hair or hair loss
- Enhancement of cleavage or decollete
Skinshine MedSpa by The Dr provides cosmetic PRP therapy to enhance the results of cosmetic procedures and help you achieve a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. Whether it is used with microneedling as a topical agent to expedite healing, or it is injected underneath the surface of the skin such as in the Vampire Facial and Vampire Facelift, respectively, your own blood (taken by venipuncture) can be a powerful healing and appearance-enhancing agent.
How Does PRP Work?
PRP therapy works in part by stimulating platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) within and underneath the skin in response to tiny intended micro-injuries from the microneedling or laser. Higher end skin care products sometimes contain manufactured animal or plant-based stem cells and growth factors such as Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF) and Epithelial Growth Factor (EGF). We use a new stem-cell based product which can be applied by dermal infusion through tiny needles with our special microneedling applicator which is formulated based on placental extract. This new formulation allows an immediate cell reactivation along with a nice whitening and improvement of skin glow. The quick reaction and cellular activation can be expected from shallow layers of the skin for its small molecules.
PRP Before And After
What is Amnion?
Amnion from placenta extract also contains an abundant amount of protein and hormones, and this “liquid gold” is becoming more popular in the field of regenerative and anti-aging medicine.
Can Amnion Be Used Instead Of PRP?
Amnion can be use instead of your body’s own PRP in the Vampire Facelift, Vampire Breast lift, O-shot and other procedures we offer, as well as for injection within the face similar to traditional cosmetic hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane or Juvederm.
Amnion can be ordered upon special request for injection procedures. Due to its short shelf life and expense, it is ordered specifically for your procedure after the time of consultation and the decision is made to proceed. If you would like to learn more about this type of biologic injectable, consult with one of our injectors.
What Is The Difference Between Medical And Cosmetic Stem Cell Procedures?
Stem cells are harvested and processed form your own fat using the same methods in both medical and cosmetic treatments. However, in cosmetic procedures, stem cells are used to hasten recovery, improve skin quality, and enhance the results of your treatment.
What Difference Do Stem Cells Make In Cosmetic Treatments?
While PRP may help recruit a few stem cells to the area, stem cell injection therapy is much more advanced. Stem cells are generally found in living tissue. Stem cells are responsible for most of the healing within your body and influence the immune system in a variety of beneficial ways. For example, plastic surgeons often inject your body’s own fat (autologous fat transfer) into other areas of the body to augment or enhance that area. Studies have shown that there are often stem cells “in the mix” once the fat is removed from the human body and prepared in a sterile system for re-injection. This can enhance the appearance of the overlying skin and can also help with scars and their appearance. In any type of procedure involving the removal of tissue or blood, the maintenance of utmost sterility is priority number one.
How Can Stem Cells Enhance Non-invasive Cosmetic Treatments?
There are several ways in which adding stem cells to non-invasive procedures can benefit you:
- Increased skin tightening. Stem cells help stimulate collagen production, and have the potential to increase the amount of collagen and skin tightening produced by other procedures.
- Laser resurfacing treatments also benefit from increased collagen production and skin tightening resulting from stem cell therapy.
- Stem cell therapy helps rejuvenate overlying skin areas treated with laser resurfacing or radiofrequency, smoothing color and decreasing wrinkles and stretch marks.
- Reducing the appearance of scars.
How Are Stem Cells Obtained?
Stem cells are gathered from your own fat with minor liposuction performed using a syringe and local anesthesia. Stem cells are isolated and grown in a sophisticated cell culture lab by cell biologists usually over a two week period. We make every effort to ensure that you are comfortable during this procedure. No downtime is required after your stem cells are extracted.
How Are Stem Cells Provided To Treated Areas?
As Skinshine Medical Spa offers non-invasive treatments, stem cells are injected into the treated areas using small needles. This procedure is painless and comfortable.
How Does PRP, Amnion and Stem Cells Rejuvenate The Skin?
Unlike many cosmetic procedures, PRP, amnion, and stem cells rejuvenate from within and address more than just the outward effects of aging. At Skinshine MedSpa by The Dr, our expert team will determine which type of aesthetic treatment is best suited for your skin type and lifestyle during your consultation.
